McClatchy Park Master Plan
A master plan built with its neighborhood: a community Design Day, technical advisors, and a signed approval.
The problem
A master plan written for a neighborhood, without the neighborhood, is a drawing. McClatchy Park's plan had to be built with the people who would live with it, and approved in the open.
What was built
He led the McClatchy Park Master Plan through a public process: a community Design Day, a technical advisory committee, and a signed approval in March 2009. It is one of nine city parks whose redesign and master planning he managed in Sacramento.
How it was done
Build the plan with its neighborhood.
- Design Day
Put the drawing in front of the community while it can still change.
- Technical advisors
Give the process professional ballast: a technical advisory committee.
- Sign it
Close with a signed approval, so the plan belongs to the record.
